Mike Wons

Mr. Wons, Managing Director of RCG, is a seasoned IT and operations executive with more than 30 years of experience leading mission-critical technology businesses serving government, commercial, public-sector, and not-for-profit markets. He is responsible for providing information technology, operations, and business analytics leadership to the Firm’s portfolio companies. His responsibilities also extend to acquisition diligence, post-acquisition on-boarding and integration, and portfolio company performance improvement activities. Prior to RCG, he served as Managing Partner of GovTech Strategy Advisors, LLC, where he worked with private equity investors on buy-side and sell-side transaction advisory services, and technology due diligence, as well as fractional executive engagements including CTO, CIO, CFO, and COO. Prior to founding GovTech Strategy Advisors, Mr. Wons served as President of the Civix Government Business Unit, a $40 million-plus division providing elections systems, business registration, campaign finance, and grants management software, where he led the transformation of 154 custom on-premise systems into three cloud-native SaaS platforms that today process more than $5 billion in payment transactions annually and support more than 45% of voter registrations nationwide. Before Civix, he served as Chief Customer Officer of PayIt, leading product, customer success, government relations, and sales as the company grew to $30 million in ARR and achieved a strong exit to Insight Partners. Mr. Wons was recruited as the first statewide Chief Technology Officer for the State of Ilinois, where he led formation of the Department of Innovation and Technology, managed a $1.3 billion statewide technology budget, and drove cloud-first, mobile-first, and statewide ERP migration initiatives. Earlier in his career, he served as Chief Executive Officer of CellTrak, Inc., a mobile healthcare SaaS. He also served as General Manager of the Public Safety Systems division and Corporate CIO of Federal Signal Corporation, where he led acquisitions in automated license plate recognition, interoperable communications, and onboard public safety systems. Prior to Federal Signal, he was CTO of the B2B group at Primedia, a KKR portfolio company. Mr. Wons began his career at Waste Management, Inc., where he spent more than a decade, ultimately serving as Group Chief Information Officer for the company’s largest business unit.

He currently serves on the board of directors of the RCG company Government Window.

Mr. Wons received a bachelor’s degree from Governors State University, an Executive Management Certificate from Aurora University, and completed graduate studies at Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management.
